What the hell?
Just when you think that McCain has the corner on stupid campaign ads the Obama peeps release this. WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER? YOU STUPID IDIOT!
Its like they were like "McCain compaired us to Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears? OH NO THEY DIDN'T. The hideously rich white woman Obama most resembles is Gweneth Paltrow. Get it right guys. Geeeze. I see your idiocy and raise you a smug. "
Arugla eating elitist indeed.

... what?
did you even watch the ad?
Um yeah, I did. And I found it smarmy and pompous and condescending. Was I being too subtle in my post?
larke.
it's a very simple advertisement, which ISN'T from the obama campaign. it's from democrats abroad. and therefore it has a very simple message.
if you are an american citizen, and you live abroad, it's simple. you know how hard it is to vote as a montana citizen when you live in nyc? imagine how hard it is when you live in the united arab emirates. they're just saying that it's easy, and you can do it with a computer.
and do you know what? celebrities have always worked well for political campaigns. for years. and if you hate gwenyth paltrow, then go read intouch, and don't let it color what you have to say about politics. it's not condescending to use one, unless you feel like you're smarter than everyone else.
it's something that's going to be good for democrats abroad, and it's aimed at democrats abroad. it has a simple message, and it's not for the general public, unlike the mccain ad, which was created by the campaign for national tv, this is a targeted internet ad.
there are better things to be angry about.
Sam.
While all you say is true I still found the ad to be bothersome. Especially the "you think using a computer is hard? its not its not its not its not" refrain. In fact I found that part so grating (smug/annoying/insulting) that it colored the rest of my perception of the ad.
But I do think it is completely fair, at a time when the McCain campaign is on full scale attack mode, to point out the way that Obama is reinforcing the very charges of elitism and celebrity that he is being accused of. And while you say that it is a democrat ad and not an Obama ad, Obama, who is the leader of the democratic party is responsible for ads that go out in his name.
Most of the Americans who are abroad that I know are on military bases and are definitely listening to the charges of arugla eating elitism and I don't see a single way this will ad sway them anywhere but closer to McCain.
And please name a time when a celebrity has had any effect on a political campaign. I have no problem with Gweneth Paltrow but you have to admit the timing is terrible. Again I say that this ad only reinforces McCain's charges. You don't have to agree with me, but don't tell me what I can and can not get angry about. You'll have to pull the right to rant about whatever I damn well please on my own blog out of my cold dead fingers you pinko-commie-terrorist.
wait wait wait wait wait
canadians can vote?
world has come to an end.
and i think the not so subtle "im voting democrat" is, well, not so subtle.
and from a commercial stand point, the whole "were gonna do a minimalist commercial with people finishing each other sentences in front of the set you sit in front of when youre taking your high school yearbook pictures" thing, is well, i think completely outdated and was never really good in the first place.
actually, this technique was only utilized well here:
